Metropolis

Metropolis is a densely layered mixed-media work that transforms the energy of the city into a surreal, highly personal visual world.

The composition is built from an accumulation of objects, images, textures and fragments: mechanical forms, architectural references, printed material, decorative elements and unexpected details all compete for attention. Rather than presenting a single viewpoint, Minty Edwards creates the sensation of moving through a city where memories, objects and visual impressions overlap.

Bright colour and reflective surfaces animate the work, while darker passages provide depth and structure. The eye moves constantly across the image, discovering new relationships between apparently unrelated elements. The result is both playful and slightly uncanny. Metropolis feels familiar without ever becoming literal, capturing something of the noise, density and unpredictability of contemporary urban life.

The work measures 53 × 53 cm framed and is ready to hang. Its richness lies in the way it rewards repeated viewing. From a distance the composition reads as a complete urban environment; closer inspection reveals a succession of individual details and small discoveries. That tension between the whole and its many fragments is central to the work: Metropolis is not simply a depiction of a city, but an exploration of how contemporary life can feel, crowded, interconnected, colourful, disorientating and endlessly absorbing.
