Worcester College
Worcester College is a quiet, atmospheric study of the college grounds and their reflective waters. Laura Middleton focuses less on architectural detail and more on the experience of looking across the surface of the lake, where trees, sky and surrounding vegetation dissolve into shifting areas of colour.
The painting is built around reflection. Deep greens and soft blue-grey tones create a sense of depth, while the broken surface of the water prevents the image from settling into a simple mirror image. What appears above and below the waterline begins to merge, giving the work a stillness that also carries a sense of continual movement.
This work has since sold; the price shown is the recorded gallery price, retained here for reference rather than as a current asking price. It was one of a pair of closely related Worcester College paintings supplied together (see also Worcester College II); which of the two supplied photographs belongs to this specific, sold canvas is not confirmed by the source material and should be checked before this page is treated as final.
