Wolvercote Pond
Wolvercote Pond is a contemplative exploration of water as both subject and metaphor. Laura Middleton dissolves the familiar landscape of one of Oxfordshire’s quiet ponds into a layered field of colour, movement and reflection, inviting the viewer to linger rather than locate.
Built through successive veils of paint, the surface shifts between opacity and translucence. Greens, blues and softened earth tones drift and overlap, echoing the gentle movement of water disturbed by light, foliage and passing air. Reflections are intentionally blurred, allowing sky, trees and water to merge into a single, fluid plane.
