Reflections

Reflections is a quietly immersive painting that captures the stillness of water and the shifting light of the sky above it. Laura Middleton focuses on the surface of the lake, where reflections of clouds, trees and atmosphere dissolve into one another, creating a delicate balance between observation and abstraction.

The composition is anchored by a horizontal line of distant trees, yet the eye is drawn downward into the mirrored world below. Soft blues, greys and muted earth tones blend across the surface, interrupted by subtle gestures of reeds in the foreground. These vertical elements introduce a sense of depth and gently anchor the viewer within the scene. The painting holds a sense of calm and suspension, the water becoming both subject and surface, reflecting the sky while simultaneously obscuring what lies beneath.
