Richard Fox

Biography

Richard Fox is a self-taught sculptor who lives and works near Oxford. A visit to the Barbara Hepworth Museum in St Ives inspired him to begin developing his approach to sculpture in 2005. He has exhibited and sold his work nationally and internationally since 2008.

Working in bronze, stone and wood, Richard explores how abstract forms change as we move around them. Curves, edges and openings offer shifting viewpoints, creating opportunities for contemplation and personal connection. His sculptures mounted on central spindles allow this encounter to develop through rotation of the work itself.

The changing perspectives within each sculpture also inform his creative process. A curve, twist or line discovered in one piece often becomes the starting point for another, continuing a sense of flow and movement throughout his work.

Richard’s sculptures are held in private collections around the world, including aboard luxury superyachts. His work has also been shown at a prestigious gallery in Mayfair, London. His sculpture also features in The Woman in Cabin 10 (2025), the Netflix thriller starring Keira Knightley.

Sculpture: form and movement

Richard creates sculpture with balance and form in mind. Works mounted on a central spindle can be rotated by hand, revealing changing relationships between their surfaces, edges and the spaces within them.

A form that seems familiar from one angle becomes something different from another. This unfolding experience invites viewers to look again and make new connections. For Richard, the same process generates ideas: the curves, twists and lines of one sculpture often become the starting point for the next.
