Summer Ocean Shoreline
Summer Ocean Shoreline is a semi-abstract landscape by Imogen Rigden, painted in water-soluble ink and oil on a cradled wood panel. Pale, pebble-like forms and silvery scratched marks sit within a deep indigo ground, beneath a warm band of ochre horizon - a closer, more tactile view of shoreline than the other works in the group.
The painting belongs to a group of five new works completed for Ewan Macfarlane Gallery in August 2026, and is the smallest of the five. Rigden sketches outdoors but paints later in the studio from memory rather than direct observation, allowing accumulated impressions of water and weather to surface together rather than recording a single view.
Why This Work Matters
Part of a concentrated new body of work exploring water, coast and memory, Summer Ocean Shoreline's close, tactile focus on pebbles and shoreline offers the most intimate view within Rigden's new collection.
