Storm Breakers
Storm Breakers is a semi-abstract landscape by Imogen Rigden, painted in water-soluble ink and oil on a cradled wood panel. Layered blues and greys build a turbulent sky and sea, broken by a pale, moon-like form and a single streak of yellow, suggesting weather moving through rather than a fixed view.
The painting belongs to a group of five new works completed for Ewan Macfarlane Gallery in August 2026. Rigden sketches outdoors but paints later in the studio from memory rather than direct observation, allowing accumulated impressions of water and weather to surface together rather than recording a single view.
Why This Work Matters
Part of a concentrated new body of work exploring water, coast and memory, Storm Breakers reflects Imogen Rigden's continuing engagement with the sea as an active, psychologically charged presence rather than passive scenery.
