Estuary Horizons
Estuary Horizons is a semi-abstract landscape by Imogen Rigden, painted in water-soluble ink and oil on a cradled wood panel. A dark, branching line moves through a warm ground of ochre and rose, with a cluster of pale, blossom-like marks and a deep silhouette suggesting land meeting water at the horizon.
The painting belongs to a group of five new works completed for Ewan Macfarlane Gallery in August 2026. Rigden sketches outdoors but paints later in the studio from memory rather than direct observation, allowing accumulated impressions of water and weather to surface together rather than recording a single view.
Why This Work Matters
Part of a concentrated new body of work exploring water, coast and memory, Estuary Horizons's warmer palette and branching structure reflect Rigden's interest in where land, water and memory meet.
