After the Rain

After the Rain opens with a broad, softly clouded grey sky, lightening toward a band of gold-green at the horizon. Below it, a foreground of layered rust, amber and ochre suggests wet, low-lying ground catching the first light after a storm has passed, in keeping with Barbara Grenet’s practice of evoking atmosphere and remembered landscape rather than a fixed, literal view.
